Tales From a Tour Manager So, i’ve decided to every so often post some of my experiences with Security professionals i encounter while on the road. I’ve shared a couple of stories already. Maybe someone can learn from them, as I, as a Tour Manager, may perceive things a bit differently. Recently, we had a private performance. The client did not hire a lot of security and that became a bit of an issue as ALL of the security personnel decided they wanted to be where the action was, and watch my clients’ performance, which left our dressing rooms unattended. BIG problem, especially when the rooms are not lockable and a lot of random staff passes through that hallway. To add insult to injury, one of the security “professionals” thought it was appropriate to stand stage right backstage in guitar world and FILM the performance. When i asked him to please stop he flashed his badge like that gave him permission to break our contractual rules of no filming allowed. I educated him. I also had a conversation with the event manager and all of a sudden i had someone guarding the dressing rooms and security actually securing something. If you have a badge, that is great, but please don’t abuse it. If you are moonlighting as concert security you too can get released from your duties or find yourself guarding the dressing room. Don’t ever get caught filming. Extremely unprofessional.
