CYBERSECURITY TRAINING FOR VETERANS: This stemmed from another post where someone asked about cybersecurity certifications that would be beneficial to EP. I think the general conclusion is that IT certs alone aren't going to land you an EP job but the knowledge is good to have. Luckily, there is tons of free cybersecurity training out there because IT is in such high demand. This list is specific to programs for U.S. military veterans but I'll put together a list of training for everyone else as well. =-=-=-=-= Google offers a free security course here as part of their own IT certification: https://www.coursera.org/learn/it-security You can get the full Google cert with a scholarship from the USO but I’m not totally sure how that works and it looks like the program is full for now: uso.org/google FortiVet https://www.fortinet.com/corporate/careers/vets “The Fortinet Veterans program focuses on helping veterans transition into the cyber-security industry.  The program seeks to capitalize on the natural synergy between national defense in the Armed Services and defending critical information for businesses and government agencies.” VetSec https://veteransec.com/about/ VetSec is a non-profit founded by active duty and veterans that offers free training and networking. Vets in Tech (ViT) https://vetsintech.co/cybersecurity-class/ ViT is not free but they offer VERY affordable 5-day training bootcamps. (like $12) CyberVets https://www.cybervets.virginia.gov/training-programs/cisco-training-program/ CyberVets is a 12-15 week training program that offers a variety of industry certifications. Microsoft Software and Systems Academy (MSSA) https://military.microsoft.com/programs/microsoft-software-systems-academy/ MSSA provides a 17-week training for their own MTA certs but they removed their cybersecurity specializations. It might still be worth taking a look at. LinkedIn Premium https://socialimpact.linkedin.com/programs/veterans/premiumform If you haven’t already used up your free year of LinkedIn Premium, you get full access to LinkedIn Learning that has foundational courses, test prep, and everything in between. Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) https://fedvte.usalearning.gov/ FedVTE provides free online cybersecurity training to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial government employees, federal contractors, and US military veterans. Onward to Opportunity (O2O) https://ivmf.syracuse.edu/programs/career-training/ Onward to Opportunity (O2O) is a no-cost industry-focused and validated career skills program that connects transitioning service members and active duty military spouses to high-demand careers in Customer Service Excellence, Information Technology, and Business Management. Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC) https://www.va.gov/education/about-gi-bill-benefits/how-to-use-benefits/vettec-high-tech-program/ VET TEC is a program offered by the VA that is SEPARATE from your GI Bill. They pay for a tech bootcamp but it has to be VA-approved.
